The number of applications for U.S. home loans declined this week, even though mortgage interest rates fell for the second week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Both home purchase loan applications and refinance requests decreased 4% during the week ended April 30, 2025, while the average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage sank to 6.89% from 6.90%. The MBA blames buyer hesitancy on uncertainty about the broader economy.
